And we’re back.

Google’s decided that another core update was needed. And it happened.

So let’s look at what happened in March 2025.

Google Core Algorithm Update – March 2025

Alright. So, let’s take a look at what Google decided to do.

What Happened

This is the first core update for 2025, and lasted from March 13th to March 27th.

This update was pretty stock-standard as far as algorithmic updates go. The main focus for this one was updating its core ranking system to make search results more relevant and helpful.

The impact didn’t affect as many sites as other updates did. That being said, the sites that were affected were… well, really affected.

So the update was officially launched on 05 March 2025, and finished rolling out on 27 March 2025.

You can learn more by checking out Google’s search status dashboard.

Honestly, there’s not much that can be done right now. Some sites are impacted by the algorithm update. But that doesn’t mean they’re doing anything wrong.

I’d give it at least a week, and then reassess where your site is dipping, and how you can fix it.

I wish there was more to say about it, but this isn’t like a Helpful Content Update, or something that gets a name (like Penguin, Hummingbird, and Panda).

When algorithm updates happen, there’s a misconception that the SEO world’s been flipped on its head.

Sometimes, that’s the case.

But most of the time, the core ranking factors (like E-E-A-T, content relevance, and original content) are just shifted around, so one’s more important than it used to be.

So, give it some time. Then see what’s changed. Once that’s done, you may just have a direction to move in.

Did I miss anything?

Or don’t.

I can’t tell you what to do.

I’m not Google.

Hey, I’m Ian. I started learning about SEO in 2021. Since then, I’ve done work for clients in just about every industry you can imagine, ranked at the top of page 1 for content, and written stuff for Backlinko.✍️ (Yup, that one). When I started out, I couldn’t afford expensive tools. I still can’t. It took me time to find the resources and tools that wouldn’t cost a fortune. And that’s what Poor Man’s SEO is about. It’s our way of sharing what we’ve learned with you — for free
